Marco Anelli: Building Magazzino at the Hamilton Fish Library

Magazzino Italian Art presents the book signing event of Marco Anelli: Building Magazzino on June 1st at the Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish Library in Garrison, NY. An exhibition of photographs from the book will be on display in the Program Room.
The book signing with photographer Marco Anelli will begin at 5:30pm. A cocktail reception in the library garden will follow with a tasting of Sardinian cheeses and Italian wines until 8:00pm.
Shuttle service will depart Magazzino at 5:00pm and shuttles will run from the Garrison train station to the Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish Library throughout the evening.
GARRISON, NEW YORK – Magazzino Italian Art presents the book signing event of Marco Anelli: Building Magazzino, a three year photographic portfolio by Italian photographer Marco Anelli, commissioned by Magazzino founders Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu.
Published by Skira Rizzoli in 2017 and designed by Waterhouse Cifuentes Design, the book illustrates Anelli’s portfolio documenting the construction of Magazzino, an art warehouse in Cold Spring, New York conceived by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo. The balanced beauty of Anelli’s photographs captures the passing of time and the fleeting feeling of impermanence with a distinguished calmness and serenity. The book features essays by Manuel Blanco, Alberto Campo Baeza and Marvin Heiferman.
The project pays homage to the work of Quismondo and the many consultants, contractors, and construction firms involved in the realization of Magazzino including Albany Fire; APAP; AVS; Badey & Watson; Consulting Engineering Services; Glassolutions; Gregorio & Gregorio; Harold Lyons; MALT; m.a.P. Studio; Michael P. Carr, P.E.; Pidala Electric; Pipeline USA; Proinller; Sangiorgio; Stanley Security; Stuart-Lynn; Taconic; Tino Yannitelli; Van der Koos; and Vanguard.
Coinciding with the book signing, Magazzino presents an exhibition in the Program Room of the library. Curated by Magazzino’s Director, Vittorio Calabrese, the exhibition features large-format photographs depicting the different phases of construction alongside portraits of the local workers involved in the project.
About Marco Anelli
Marco Anelli is a Roman-born, New York-based photographer. After specializing in black and white photography and printing techniques in Paris, he started working on photographic projects that evolve over long periods of time. His publications include works on sculpture and architecture (Shadow and Light, Silvana Publisher 1999; All’Ombra del Duomo, Contrasto 2010), sport (Il Calcio, Motta Publisher 2002; Pallacorda, Skira 2004) and classical music (La Musica Immaginata, Motta Publisher 2004; The Gestures of the Spirit, Peliti Publisher 2011). In 2010 he took portraits of 1,545 participants in Marina Abramović’s performance at the MoMA (Portraits in the Presence of Marina Abramović, Damiani, Publisher 2010). Since 2011 he’s been exploring the character of the artist and their work as expressed in their studio. Something Wicked This Way Comes is a project that leads the viewer into the creative process of worldwide famous artists such as Matthew Barney, Lawrence Weiner, Cecily Brown, Urs Fischer, Elizabeth Peyton, Julian Schnabel, Vito Acconci and others. In 2015 he completed A Simple Story, his project on the construction of the new Whitney Museum of American Art. New York’s architecture, building sites and their workers are the subjects of his most recent research. He lives and works in New York City.

The Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish Library in Garrison, New York was founded in 1980. The Library is a member of the Mid-Hudson Library System and serves the residents of Philipstown and its surrounding communities. Magazzino Italian Art is a private warehouse art space located in Cold Spring, New York. Devoted to Postwar and Contemporary Italian art from the Olnick Spanu Collection, Magazzino meaning warehouse in Italian was co-founded by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu. Designed by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo, the 20,000 square-foot structure is free to the public by appointment.
